“SPIELERINNEN” (documentary, D 2024, 89 min, German/Turkish original version with English subtitles, followed by a discussion with the director)
Director: Aysun Bademsoy
Cinematography: Isabelle Casez, Ines Thomsen
Editing: Maja Tennstedt
30 years ago, the first and only Turkish girls' soccer team in Europe, called Ağrı Spor, was founded in Berlin Kreuzberg. Director Aysun Bademsoy portrayed the female soccer players of Turkish origin with their dreams, victories, defeats and lifelong friendships. Over a period of 30 years, she met the young women Arzu, Türkan, Nalan and Nazan and followed their lives. The film “Players” shows the young women from back then, who are now mothers themselves and have teenagers at the age at which they themselves once started out in life. What has become of them and their dreams, what role did soccer play and how foreign or familiar has German society become to them? Aysun Bademsoy's film is one of the most precise long-term observations in German cinema and a well-founded contribution to questions of migration and integration, home and foreignness.
Discussion with the director Aysun Bademsoy after the film.
