Germany 2024, 120 min., original version in German with German subtitles
German filmmaker Leni Riefenstahl (1902–2003) became Adolf Hitler's court director with her Nazi party congress film ‘Triumph of the Will’ After the end of the Nazi dictatorship she worked intensively to portray herself as an ‘apolitical’ artist.
Based on new archive material from the filmmaker's estate, Andres Veiel's impressive film examines the aesthetic, psychological, historical and political dimensions of Riefenstahl's film work, German fascism and its consequences. The film received the Cinema and Arts Award at the Venice Film Festival in 2024. ‘Within five weeks of its release, the film had been seen by more than 100,000 viewers. This makes Riefenstahl one of the most successful documentaries of the last five years.’ (Blickpunkt Film) The film is currently touring the United States.
