Catarina de Paula Borba (BRA) and Silke Reichmann de Salas (DEU) play distinctive instruments from their respective regions: the Brazilian berimbau and the pandeiro, as well as the hurdy-gurdy and the flute. They sing in their native languages and inspire each other to create original compositions and unusual arrangements. In doing so, they develop a new, shared sound drawing on a wide variety of musical influences. The lyrics of their songs are witty and cheeky, exploring life and love; they sometimes have a special focus on women and, above all, are timeless. Incidentally, the duo’s name, “MARITACA,” is the name of a species of parrot in Brazil that always flies in flocks and makes a lot of noise.
