ANDREA CHUDAK & DANIEL PACITTI – “Ave Maria”

Oct 09, 2025 | 07:30 PM

For over 15 years, soprano ANDREA CHUDAK has been working on Ave Maria musical settings. During this time, she has amassed a large collection of more than 200 compositions from all eras of music history; composers have even written new works for her and dedicated them to her. This resulted in a major recording project in the unique acoustics of the Friedenskirche Potsdam, producing a 5-CD box set of 68 selected Ave Marias – a highlight-filled overview of a repertoire that is almost impossible to grasp in its entirety, ranging from Gregorian chants to arrangements of successful popular songs and thoroughly ambivalent salon pieces to occasional works by composers who have been successful in other genres and contemporary pieces for today's liturgical practice. But with the new compositions, the thousand-year-old history of reception takes on new facets that open up entirely individual possibilities for interpretation.

Accompanied by bandoneon virtuoso DANIEL PACITTI, the singer takes the audience on an exciting journey of discovery through a thousand years of music history. Experience how diverse the treatment of one and the same text can be: functional church music alongside secular chamber music, serious sounds alongside cheerful ones – this concert impressively demonstrates that the musical settings of this prayer, which has been the epitome of popular piety for centuries, can be more than just the familiar hits.
