DESCRIPTION: Internationally renowned film director HENK HANDLOEGTEN will p
 resent two episodes of the successful TV series BABYLON BERLIN. It is based
  on a series of historical crime novels set in late Weimar Republic and ear
 ly Nazi-era Berlin. At its center are the lives and investigations of the l
 aconic police detective Gereon Rath and his charismatic assistant Charlotte
  Ritter. Hailed by the press as a " masterpiece" and "Cabaret on Cocaine" t
 he series pays homage to the visual culture of the German avant-garde and e
 xplores the deep political rifts of the time. Its treatment of the rise of 
 fascism is as erudite as it is timely. The episodes will be screened in Ger
 man with English subtitles. After the screening\, there will be an opportun
 ity to discuss the series with HENK HANDLOEGTEN and ask questions.   The ev
 ent is being held in cooperation with Dartmouth College.
