THE IBZ BERLIN: YOUR NEW HOME

German universities have an excellent reputation abroad. Berlin especially has been attracting international scientists for several years. The Freie Universität Berlin and the Humboldt Universität zu Berlin are two of the most popular universities.

It can be difficult for international scientists to find an apartment in Berlin from their hometown as often they do not speak German and do not know the German tenancy law. It can also be difficult as they are often new to Berlin and so do not know which areas are residentially preferable, not do they have time to do the necessary research when living abroad.

The IBZ Berlin provides a solution to this problem by providing world-class, fully furnished, high quality housing close to the Freie Universität. The well-located and quiet house is well connected to public transport and provides good access to both the Freie Universität campus and the city centre, as well as areas such as Dahlem or the Park Wilmersdorf that are perfect for relaxing.

The IBZ Berlin offers all the comforts of urban and green life in the city. It offers a wide range of non-academic, cultural and scientific events for guests, their friends and neighbours. It also has shared spaces such as the club room and the large ceremonial hall, which offer a range of entertainment facilities. We want it to make it as comfortable as possible for all our guests so they feel at home straight away.

The association IBZ Berlin was founded in 1983 as a joint venture of the Freie Universität Berlin, the Technischen Universität Berlin, the Universität der Künste Berlin, the Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin für Materialien und Energie (HZB) and the Max-Planck-Gesellschaft, the Wissenschaftszentrum Berlin für Sozialforschung and the former Elektronenspeicherring-Gesellschaft für Synchrotronstrahlung, BESSY. Today, the Freie Universität Berlin, the Max Planck Gesellschaft and small institutions as well as private person are responsible for the association.

The association promotes the exchange of ideas between scientists, international artists and their German colleagues. The international meeting centre Berlin in particular creates a medium through which this is possible. The IBZ Berlin is a founding member of the Network of IBZ and of high-school near guest houses in Germany. Since 2009 the IBZ Berlin is managed by the Studentendorf Schlachtensee eG. Gajana Holland and her team are responsible for the management of the house.
