HALL & CLUB

Concerts, lectures or celebrations - the IBZ Berlin has the right location for many occasions

Whether for a small company event, a product presentation, a team meeting, a small congress or a private celebration – with club and the great hall the IBZ has two locations that can hold 30 to 80 participants.

The club on the ground floor, right next to the main entrance, can be quickly converted into a cinema or small concert room, has a powerful projector, screen and small stage, a music system, its own toilet and a kitchen. The club is ideal for private celebrations or a small customer event.

The large hall on the fourth floor of House D can comfortably accommodate up to 80 guests. The room has a variable stage, a counter for check-in or a buffet and can be reached quickly via an elevator. It is ideal for a larger celebration, a lecture or workshop in a larger group.

We also rent the club and hall to interested parties who do not live at IBZ Berlin. Talk to us and we will see when one of the rooms is free for you.

FAQ

Do you have any question?
Here you will find answers to the most frequently asked questions.

How can I rent an apartment at IBZ?
To apply for an apartment a research or teaching contract at a Berlin university, college or research institution is required. Please fill out the inquiry form on our website or send us your planned travel details and what kind of apartment you want to book via Email. We will then check if the desired apartment is available and will get back to you as soon as possible.

What does the rent include?
All rents are all-inclusive, including the fully furnished and equipped apartment and covering all side costs, Internet connection via the EDUROAM network as well as the free use of all community facilities.

What other costs will there be?
If you want to rent linen, the rental fee is 8 euros for each set. When moving out, a final cleaning fee will be charged, the amount of which depends on the size of the apartment.

Do I have to pay a security deposit?
It depends: If you are staying for less than two months, we do not require a deposit. For a stay of two months or longer, a deposit of one month’s rent will be charged.

How far in advance should I make a reservation?
The demand for apartments at IBZ is quite high. We recommend that you book as far in advance as you possibly can. If you are planning to stay in Berlin for longer, please ask at least six months in advance if a suitable apartment will be available. But of course sometimes apartments become vacant at short notice, so it is always worth checking and we can also put you on our waiting list.

When is a reservation binding?
The reservation becomes binding as soon as you get the written confirmation. A firm booking is made by paying the deposit or paying the first month's rent as a rental confirmation. The deposit or the first monthly rent must be paid 2 months before the start of the rental period. Once we have received payment we will confirm your booking.

Can I cancel a reservation?
The reservation can be revoked no later than two months before the start date of the rental contract. Otherwise the rent is due.

When is the first month’s rent due?
In the case of a stay of less than two months, the first rent as rental confirmation is due two months before the start of the contract. If a deposit is paid as a rental confirmation, the first rent is due on the 5th of the respective month.

How does the check in work?
Our house has a key safe, so you can check in 24/7. Should you plan to arrive outside the opening hours of the rental office, please tell us. You will then get a personal code which gives you access to the key for your apartment. You can settle in comfortably and then come to the office during opening hours on the next workday, where all formalities will be dealt with.

When is the current rent due?
The current rent is due no later than the 5th of each month.

How do I pay the rent?
Payment should be made by bank transfer or by SEPA direct debit (direct debit authorization). In exceptional cases, payment can also be made in the office by giro or credit card. Cash payments are not desired and are only accepted in justified exceptional cases.

What do I have to do if I want to give the IBZ a direct debit authorization or if I want to withdraw an authorization that has already been given?
A direct debit needs to be authorized in writing, there is a respective form for you to fill in available at the office. The rent will then be collected from your account on the 5th of every month. The authorization automatically ends with the end of your rental agreement if you do not cancel it in written form before.

Is there internet access in the apartments?
The IBZ is connected to the research network EDUROAM and therefore offers a high-speed broadband connection. Please contact your host institute to obtain an access code prior to your arrival. Use is free of charge.

Can I set up my own washing machine in my apartment?
No, washing machines are not allowed in the apartments. There is a launderette with washing machines and dryers accessible to all residents on the ground floor.

Can I bring my pet?
Unfortunately no, as pet hair allergies have increased significantly, pets are generally not allowed in the IBZ Berlin.

Can my guests stay overnight in my apartment or in the IBZ Berlin?
Of course your guests can stay in your apartment. If you need extra mattresses and bedding, we can provide everything you need for a small fee. Sometimes also an apartment is empty for a few days that you can rent as a guest apartment. Please ask at the rental office.

How do I participate in the cultural and scientific exchange at IBZ Berlin? And where can I meet other scientists or celebrate with my friends or colleagues?
We look forward to your offers for lectures, readings, video presentations, concerts, etc. Please contact the rental office, where we will coordinate the event program and arrange the date for your event. The club room on the ground floor and the event hall are also available to our guests for private celebrations by prior arrangement. Use of the rooms is free of charge.
